Romans 8 statements … All Things Work Together

 In Romans 12 Paul gives what might be the first altar call aimed at surrendering all.

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Today we’re going to look at one of the most comprehensive and deepest passages of Scripture in Romans 8 to discover what we gain in surrender.

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

There is a deep groaning inside of us for wrong things to be made right. And for the wrongs of this world to be exposed.

We know that day is coming but what about right now? And here is the answer…

 Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Paul tells us that in this in-between time of finding Jesus and going to heaven we are given a gift, the Holy Spirit. “The Spirit himself.”

When we surrender to Jesus, we gain the working of the Holy Spirit.

If you’ve never understood the Holy Spirit, one of the greatest descriptions of the Holy Spirit’s ministry in our life is in the word “help” or “helper.” The Holy Spirit helps us in our weaknesses. He knows our deepest longings and desires and needs.

When the Holy Spirit helps you, he’s picking up what you can’t carry. He’s assisting you. He is supporting you. He is aiding you. He is sustaining you.

The Holy Spirit is called many things in the Scriptures but the main thing he’s called is your helper. He is your helper in the sense that he knows what to do.

There is another big word in this passage; intercedes. The Holy Spirit is interceding for you. He is on your side. He is moving you into the center of the will of God, that zone of blessing and peace.

In fact, it says that he is passionately groaning and working and interceding and intervening for you to put you in the place where you will fully experience the glory of God and the love and friendship of Jesus.

So thorough and all-encompassing is the work of the Holy Spirit that we have this amazing verse that just sort of sums it up…

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

This is certainly one of the most all-encompassing, almost unbelievable, supernatural, and stout promises of the Bible.

En Romanos 12 Pablo da lo que podría ser el primer llamado al altar destinado a entregarlo todo.

Romanos 12:1 Os pido , pues, hermanos, por las misericordias de Dios, que presentéis vuestros cuerpos como un sacrificio vivo, santo y aceptable a Dios, que es vuestro culto espiritual.

Hoy íbamos a ver uno de los pasajes más completos y profundos de la Escritura en Romanos 8 para descubrir lo que ganamos en la rendición.

Romanos 8:18 Porque considero que los sufrimientos de este tiempo presente no valen la pena compararlos con la gloria que se nos ha de revelar.

 19 Porque la creación espera con ansia la revelación de los hijos de Dios.  20 Porque la creación fue sometida a la futilidad, no voluntariamente, sino por el que la sometió, con la esperanza 21 de que la creación misma sea liberada de su esclavitud a la corrupción y obtenga la libertad de la gloria de los hijos de Dios.  22 Porque sabemos que toda la creación ha estado gimiendo junta en los dolores del parto hasta ahora.

 23 Y no sólo la creación, sino nosotros mismos, que tenemos las primicias del Espíritu, gemimos interiormente mientras esperamos ansiosamente la adopción como hijos, la redención de nuestros cuerpos.  24 Porque en esta esperanza fuimos salvos.  Ahora la esperanza que se ve no es esperanza. Porque ¿quién espera lo que ve?  25 Pero si esperamos lo que no vemos, lo esperamos con paciencia.

Hay un profundo gemido dentro de nosotros para que las cosas equivocadas se arreglen.  Y para que los males de este mundo sean expuestos.

Sabemos que ese día está llegando, pero ¿qué pasa ahora?  Y aquí está la respuesta…

 Romanos 8:26 Del mismo modo, el Espíritu nos ayuda en nuestra debilidad.  Porque no sabemos por qué orar como deberíamos, pero el Espíritu mismo intercede por nosotros con gemidos demasiado profundos para las palabras.  27 Y el que escudriña los corazones sabe cuál es la mente del Espíritu, porque el Espíritu intercede por los santos según la voluntad de Dios.  28 Y sabemos que para los que aman a Dios todas las cosas trabajan juntas para el bien, para los que son llamados según su propósito.  29 Para aquellos a quienes conocía de antemano, también predestinó que se conformaran a la imagen de su Hijo, para que pudiera ser el primogénito entre muchos hermanos.  30 Y a los que predestinó también llamó, y a los que llamó también justificó, y a los que justificó también glorificó.

Pablo nos dice que en este tiempo intermedio de encontrar a Jesús e ir al cielo se nos da un regalo, el Espíritu Santo.  “El Espíritu mismo”.

Cuando nos rendimos a Jesús, obtenemos la obra del Espíritu Santo.

Si nunca has entendido el Espíritu Santo, una de las mayores descripciones del ministerio del Espíritu Santo en nuestra vida es en la palabra “ayuda” o “ayudante”. El Espíritu Santo nos ayuda en nuestra debilidad.  Él conoce nuestros anhelos, deseos y necesidades más profundos.

Cuando el Espíritu Santo te ayuda, está recogiendo lo que no puedes llevar.  Él te está ayudando. Él te está apoyando.  Él te está ayudando. Él te está sosteniendo.

El Espíritu Santo se llama muchas cosas en las Escrituras, pero lo principal que él llama es su ayudante.  Él es tu ayudante en el sentido de que sabe qué hacer.

Hay otra gran palabra en este pasaje; intercede.  El Espíritu Santo está intercediendo por ti. Él está de tu lado.  Él te está moviendo al centro de la voluntad de Dios, esa zona de bendición y paz.

De hecho, dice que él está gimiendo apasionadamente y trabajando e intercediendo e interviniendo para que te pongas en el lugar donde experimentarás plenamente la gloria de Dios y el amor y la amistad de Jesús.

Tan completa y abarcadora es la obra del Espíritu Santo que tenemos este asombroso versículo que simplemente lo resume …

Romanos 8:28 Y sabemos que para los que aman a Dios todas las cosas trabajan juntas para bien, para aquellos que son llamados de acuerdo a su propósito.

Esta es ciertamente una de las promesas más abarcadoras, casi increíbles, sobrenaturales y sólidas de la Biblia.
