Living with Trials

James 1:2-10

Introduction

Adversity is a part of life. The Christian life includes times of trials and difficulty.

The book of James begins in a startling manner. He tells his readers “to count it all joy” when facing trials, a paradox indeed! Most of us don’t find adversity a reason for joy. In fact, we struggle when problems impact our life.

James is talking about times when you face outward trials of many different kinds. These trials may be numerous and likely will occur in the lives of all Christians. The term “various” suggest the multi-faceted nature of trials.

What can trials teach us? Note the following:

Trials can teach us patience. (James 1:3-4)

Trials can teach us to pray. (James 1:5)

Trials can teach us the right priorities. (James 1:9-10)
