Abraham: The Friend of God

February 12, 2023

Genesis 12:1

The Bible tells us of an Old Testament personality named Abram/Abraham. One of the descriptions attached to Abraham is that he
is called God’s friend. We talk a lot about …

God’s holiness.
God’s mercy.
The judgment of God.
The will of God.
The plan of God.
But the friendship of God?

Three specific scriptures: James 2:23; Isaiah 41:8; 2 Chronicles 20:7. Each describes Abraham as a friend of God.

Friendship with God centers on trusting Him. Abraham walked in total dependence. It was dependence on a God who was Abraham’s friend.

Note the following:

Trust God even when it is inconvenient.

Trust God even when it doesn’t make perfect sense.

Trust God even when it doesn’t happen overnight.
