“You are miserable comforters, all of you!” (Job 16:2)

What to Do with Miserable Comforters

1.  Take a

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)

3.  a Loss and Hope in

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” (Revelation 21:5)

Head

  • Retell the Story of Job. If you’ve never heard of it or read it, check it out at oslc.com/blog
  • How do you relate to Job? His friends?
  • What would you have done if you were Job? His friends?

  • Who do you tend to blame for strained or lost friendships?
  • How do you bring your pain and grief over your strained or lost friendships to God?
  • If you were able to work at restoring a strained or lost friendship, where would you begin?

Hands

  • Repairing friendships is hard work that takes place over a long period of time. Who do you have encouraging you to both grieve your losses and hope in your friendships being made new now or in eternity?
