A Journey With The Book of Acts
Part 4: Carrying the Commission
Acts 28:22-25
22 And now I urge you to take [a]heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, 24 saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ 25 Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.
The Gospel Advances When Believers Share Their Stories And Proclaim God’s Truth— Even When It Is Costly. Paul’s Life Invites Us To Carry The Commission With Courage, Clarity, And Conviction.
THE TRIALS – REMAINING FAITHFUL DURING HARDSHIP
Acts 23:11 (NKJV):
But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, ‘Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.’
This Verse Reminds Us That Divine Purpose Often Includes Seasons Of Discomfort
This verse reminds us that divine purpose often includes seasons of discomfort. Paul was facing opposition, uncertainty, and imprisonment, yet the Lord stood beside him. God did not immediately remove Paul from the trial. Instead, He reassured Paul that the trial could not cancel his assignment.
Paul’s circumstances looked restrictive, but God’s purpose was still moving forward. What appeared to be a setback was actually part of the journey to Rome.
The Presence of God in the Trial
The Lord “stood by” Paul. This teaches us that when God does not take us out of the trial, He will stand with us in it.
You may feel surrounded by trouble, but you have not been abandoned by God. His presence is proof that your pain is not the end of your story.
Memory Statement:
God’s presence does not always prevent the trial, but it guarantees that I will not face the trial alone.

The Promise of God Through the Trial
Jesus told Paul, “You must also bear witness at Rome.” This was more than encouragement; it was a promise. Paul’s enemies could threaten him, imprison him, and conspire against him, but they could not cancel what God had already declared.
When God says you still have somewhere to go, your present hardship cannot become your final destination.
Call and Response:
If God still has purpose for me, this trial cannot finish me!
The Perseverance Required in the Trial
Paul still had to remain faithful. The promise did not eliminate the process. He had to keep trusting, testifying, and moving forward, even while under pressure.
Faithfulness is not measured by how well we serve God when everything is comfortable. Faithfulness is revealed by our obedience when serving God becomes costly.
What Does This Mean for Us Today?

There will be seasons when following God is uncomfortable. You may experience rejection, disappointment, delay, criticism, financial pressure, emotional exhaustion, or opposition from people you expected to support you.
However, discomfort does not always mean you are outside God’s will. Sometimes the pressure is evidence that you are carrying something valuable.
Do not confuse a difficult season with a defeated life. God may use the trial to strengthen your testimony, deepen your trust, and position you for your next assignment.
Mindset Mastery
Do not allow temporary discomfort to produce permanent disobedience.
Replace these thoughts:
- “This is too hard” with “God will give me strength for this.”
- “I must have missed God” with “God can still guide me through uncertainty.”
- “This trial has stopped me” with “God is using this trial to reposition me.”
- “I am alone” with “The Lord is standing beside me.”

THE TESTIMONY – SHARING YOUR STORY FOR GOD’S GLORY
Acts 26:17–18 (NKJV):
I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.
Paul’s Story Demonstrates The Power Of Testimony
Real Discipleship Involves Storytelling—Declaring How Christ Brought Us From Darkness To Light
Our Commission Is Not Just To Inform Minds But To Transform Lives Through The Gospel
- Your testimony reveals God’s power. Paul did not make himself the hero of his story. His testimony showed what Jesus could do with a surrendered life.
