A Journey With The Book of Acts Pt.3 Committed to the Call
August 12, 2026A Journey With The Book of Acts
Part 3: Committed to the Call
INTRODUCTION
The Book of Acts Is Not Merely A Record of Church History; It Is A Living Testimony of How the Gospel Spread Through Real People Who Faced Hardship But Remained Faithful
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Between Acts 16 And Acts 21, The Apostle Paul Undertook His Second And Third Missionary Journeys, Traveling Across Asia Minor And Europe
Christianity Was Often Seen As A Threat To Both Jewish Tradition And Roman Order
Their Commitment To Scripture Was Not Academic; It Was Their Source Of Strength, Wisdom, And Direction
THE PRAISE – WORSHIPING THROUGH ADVERSITY
Acts 16:25–34 (NKJV):
25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.
27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself.
28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”
29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.
30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.
34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
THE PROMISE – GOD’S REASSURANCE IN DIFFICULT TIMES
Acts 18:9–10 (NKJV):
Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, ‘Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.’
After Enduring Repeated Persecution—Being Beaten, Chased Out Of Cities, Imprisoned, And Rejected—Paul Arrives In Corinth, A Morally Compromised And Spiritually Resistant City
Yet In The Middle Of His Ministry, God Visits Him In A Vision With A Message Of Personal Reassurance And Divine Strategy: “Do Not Be Afraid… I Am With You.”
When Joshua Was Stepping Into Moses’ Shoes, God Told Him Repeatedly, “Be Strong And Courageous… For The Lord Your God Is With You Wherever You Go” (Joshua 1:9)
When Jeremiah Hesitated In His Prophetic Calling, God Assured Him, “Do Not Be Afraid Of Their Faces, For I Am With You To Deliver You” (Jeremiah 1:8)
God’s Presence Is The Sustaining Power For Every Believer, Especially In Ministry
THE PURSUIT – UNWAVERING COMMITMENT TO GOD’S CALL
Acts 20:22–24 (NKJV):
And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Paul’s Journey Was Filled With Uncertainty And Danger, Yet He Was Undeterred
Paul Did Not Chase Comfort, Safety, Or Approval—He Pursued Purpose
Commitment To God’s Call Does Not Require Perfect Conditions; It Requires A Heart That Values Obedience Over Comfort
