The Purpose of the Cross
1 Corinthians 1:18 8 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
- JESUS’ DEATH ON THE CROSS:
- Mark 8:31 NKJV And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
• Thursday evening: Jesus shared in the Last Supper and foretold His death.
• Late Thursday night: Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.
• Friday morning: Jesus was arrested, tried, and sentenced.
• Friday afternoon: Jesus was crucified and died.
• Friday evening: Jesus was buried.
THE RESURRECTION:
• Sunday morning: Jesus rose.
• Next 40 days: Jesus appeared to many, proving He lived.
• 40 days later: Jesus ascended into heaven, promising to return.
The resurrection means that Jesus conquered death and offers forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe in Him.

- His Blood washes all of our sins away
- See, the hanging on the cross was powerful because others were hung, especially when looking at the other two beside him, but when they died, nothing happened. But when Jesus died, hell shook, our sins got washed away. We are to take up your cross daily
- What does the cross mean?
- Galatians 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which[a] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
- We don’t have anything to brag about: a car, a job, or clothes. The only thing we have is that if it had not been for the Lord on your side, you would’ve been swallowed up. If you arrived there you only got there by what Jesus did on the cross for you
- If he hadn’t awakened, you every morning, you wouldn’t have even been above ground to do the things you do
- If he didn’t give you the brains or body, you wouldn’t be. You arrived there bc of Jesus. Some think they did, but it was nothing but the blood
- We are to take up our cross daily

- Don’t want to tell their friends no,
- Don’t want to live righteously. If you don’t pick up your cross, you can’t be a disciple. We have a lot of believers, but we don’t have a lot of disciples
- There’s a difference between believers and disciples.

- A believer believes, but the devil believes also
- A disciple is somebody who believes but also does what the Bible tells you to do.
- God says I have hundreds of thousands that are believers, but how many are trying to live out the scriptures day after day after day

- A disciple recognizes that Jesus said, “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord, I will repay”. If they hurt you I will get them back, don’t you get them back I will take care of them and we serve of God that when He defends you and He protects you He does it right.
- A disciple let’s this word dictate his life, you have to pick up your cross

- We’ve Been Reconciled to God by the Cross
- Ephesians 2:14-16 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.
