FAITH UNDER FIRE – PART 2: CULTIVATING OUR FAITH
Text: Mark 4:35–41; Mark 5:21–43 (NKJV)
I. INTRODUCTION: FAITH THAT GROWS IN PRESSURE
Faith is not developed in comfort—it is cultivated in crisis.

Cultivate (Hebrew word “aba”) means to work, serve, till, or nurture. It signifies stewardship, diligent effort to foster spiritual growth, and nurturing righteous character-“fruits of the spirit”- while removing sinful “weeds”.
In Mark 4, the disciples face a storm.
In Mark 5, people face sickness and death.
➡️ The common thread: Faith is tested before it is trusted.
Thesis Statement:
God allows pressure not to destroy your faith—but to develop, deepen, and demonstrate it.

D. TYPES OF STORMS
Not every storm comes from the same place—but every storm can produce purpose if you respond correctly.
1. DIVINE STORMS (God-Allowed Storms)
+ Click to add your own note
📖 Mark 4:35–41
Definition:
Storms that God allows to develop your faith, reveal His power, and move you into your next level.
Biblical Example:
Jesus told the disciples to go to the other side—and THEN the storm came.
➡️ This storm came while they were in obedience.
Purpose of Divine Storms:
- To stretch your faith
- To reveal who God is
- To prepare you for what’s next
Key Insight:
If Jesus is in your boat, the storm is not meant to sink you—it’s meant to show you Him.
Mind Mastery Application 🧠
“This storm is working for me, not against me.”
Mental Health Insight 💭
Not every hardship is punishment—some seasons are developmental, not destructive.
2. CORRECTIVE STORMS (Self-Inflicted / Disobedience)
+ Click to add your own note
📖 Jonah 1:1–17
Definition:
Storms that arise because of disobedience, wrong decisions, or running from God’s will.
Biblical Example:
Jonah ran from God—and a storm interrupted his escape.
Purpose of Corrective Storms:
- To get your attention
- To redirect your path
- To bring you back into alignment
Key Insight:
Some storms are not the devil—they are the result of decisions.
Warning Sign 🚨:
If your storm is tied to disobedience, the solution is not endurance—it’s repentance.
What do you need to repent from?

Mind Mastery Application 🧠
“I will take responsibility, realign, and respond to God.”

📖 Job 1:6–19; Ephesians 6:12
Definition:
Storms initiated by the enemy to attack your faith, disrupt your progress, and weaken your trust in God.
Purpose of Warfare Storms (from the enemy’s perspective):
- To discourage you
- To delay you
- To destroy your confidence in God

- To build endurance
- To display His sustaining power
Key Insight:
The enemy may send the storm—but God sets the limits.

Next week, we will look at the Miracles that take place because of Faith.
III. MIRACLE ENCOUNTERS (Mark 5:21–43)
This chapter shows us that faith is not just for storms—it’s for situations.
IV. WHAT IS A MIRACLE?
Definition:
A miracle is a supernatural intervention by God that overrides natural limitations.
➡️ It is when God steps into what you cannot fix.
V. THREE POWERFUL FAITH ENCOUNTERS
1. JAIRUS: FAITH THAT SEEKS JESUS (Mark 5:21–24)
Who Was Jairus?
- A ruler of the synagogue (a man of status, influence, and religion)
- Yet, his situation humbled him
➡️ He fell at Jesus’ feet

Desperation will take you where dignity won’t.
2. THE WOMAN WITH THE ISSUE OF BLOOD: FAITH THAT PRESSES (Mark 5:25–34)
- 12 years of suffering
- Spent all she had
- Got worse, not better
But she said:
👉 “If only I may touch His clothes…”
Key Truth:
Faith speaks before it sees.
Her Faith Process:
- She Heard about Jesus
- She Spoke her faith
- She Acted on it
- She Received her healing
Mind Mastery Application 🧠
- “I will press through pain, people, and pressure until I reach Jesus.”
Mental Health Insight 💭
- Long-term suffering can lead to hopelessness.
- Faith restores expectation: “Something CAN change.”
3. JAIRUS AGAIN: FAITH THAT HOLDS ON (Mark 5:35–43)
Bad news comes:
👉 “Your daughter is dead…”
Jesus responds immediately:
👉 “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
Key Insight:
Faith must be maintained—even when the situation worsens.
Jesus Removes Doubt from the Room
- He put unbelievers out
- Took only faith-filled people in
➡️ Not everybody can be around your miracle.
Jesus Demonstrates Authority Over Death
- “Talitha, cumi” — Little girl, arise
Revelation:
What looks dead to you is still alive to God.
VI. KEY THEMES FROM THESE MIRACLE ENCOUNTERS
1. JESUS’ POWER OVER DISEASE
- The woman was instantly healed
➡️ No condition is too chronic for Christ
2. JESUS’ AUTHORITY OVER DEATH
- Jairus’ daughter was raised
➡️ No situation is too final for Jesus
3. FAITH’S ROLE IN HEALING
- Jesus said: “Your faith has made you well”
Truth:
Faith does not replace God’s power—it positions you to receive it.

- Speak the Word
- Act on the Word
- Hold on despite opposition

👉 Your storm will settle.
Your condition will change.
And your situation will turn around.
