Benefit Package
February 4, 2024Benefit Package
P. Jason Hubbard
God has given us an incredible benefit package.
Psalm 103:2-5 ESV – Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
James 1:17 NLT – Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
John 16:7 CSB – “Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.”
The benefit of the Holy Spirit gives greater empowerment to fulfill God’s purpose.
Acts 1:8 NLT – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere–in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
We are to expect and pursue a greater level of empowerment by the Holy Spirit.
The benefits of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
1. Power of God.
Luke 24:48-49 NLT – “You are witnesses of all these things. And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”
2. Intimate and ongoing relationship with the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:16-17 NLT – For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.
Ephesians 6:18 NLT – Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
3. Gifts of the Spirit.
Mark 13:11 NLT – But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
4. Spiritual prayer language.
1 Corinthians 13:1 NLT – If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 14:2-4 NLT – For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church.
1 Corinthians 14:18 NLT – I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.
Romans 8:26-27 NLT – And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
1 Corinthians 14:14-15 NLT – For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying. Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand.
