The Book of Romans Part 10 – Preparing for Grace

P. Jason Hubbard

1. We can’t save .

Ephesians 2:8-9 CSB – For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift – not from works, so that no one can boast.

2. The foundation of the Gospel is that salvation outside of us.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 CSB – For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

3. Jesus did what we could do.

Romans 8:3 CSB – For what the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering,

4. the Gospel enables us to respond in faith.

Romans 10:14-17 CSB – How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message? So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.

5. Our responsibility is to to the Gospel.

Romans 10:4-10 CSB – For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes, since Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: The one who does these things will live by them. But the righteousness that comes from faith speaks like this: Do not say in your heart, “Who will go up to heaven? ” that is, to bring Christ down or, “Who will go down into the abyss? ” that is, to bring Christ up from the dead. On the contrary, what does it say? The message is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the message of faith that we proclaim: If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.

1. If you are going to live by the law, you must live to the letter of the law and it will determine if you will live. (v. 5)

2. We can’t work to gain to Jesus. (v. 6-7)

3. The answer is than you think. (v. 8)

The power of salvation is that it’s not about what we initiate but how we .

Deuteronomy 30:19 CSB – “I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live,

Romans 10:9 CSB – If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Believing is and with the Gospel. Confessing is out our beliefs.

1. the Gospel.

2. with what God says about us.

Confession includes our declarations, disposition, attitudes, and body language.

We can’t believe something and not confess it nor confess something we don’t believe.

Matthew 12:34 CSB – “Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.”

We can’t believe something and not live it nor live something we don’t believe.

1 Peter 3:15 CSB – but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.

Belief and confession are a lifelong and daily that begins in the Word.

Hebrews 10:23 ESV – Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

What do I God speaking to me today?

How will I what I heard God saying to how I live?

Proverbs 24:16 CSB – Though a righteous person falls seven times, he will get up, but the wicked will stumble into ruin.
