Gather at the Table – The Table of the Lord

P. Jason Hubbard

Luke 22:14-20 NLT – When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins.

1. JESUS THEM.

2. JESUS HAD SOMETHING FOR THEM.

For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.” He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people–an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.”

Exodus 6:6-7 NLT – “Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt.’”

1. I WILL YOU FROM OPPRESSION.

2. I WILL YOU FROM YOUR SLAVERY.

3. I WILL YOU.

4. I WILL YOU AS MY OWN PEOPLE.

THE FOUR CUPS:

1. The Cup of (kiddush).

2. The Cup of (maggid).

3. The Cup of (birket hamazon).

Job 42:10 NLT – When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!

4. The Cup of (hallel).

Our response to salvation, deliverance, and redemption is praise.

Luke 22:14-20 NLT – When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. Do this to remember me.” Luke 22:20 NLT – After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people–an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.”

Matthew 26:27-30 NLT – And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Mark my words–I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.” Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.

1. I have you from your oppression.

2. I have you from your slavery.

3. I have you.

4. I have you as my own people.

John 8:34-36 NLT – Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”

Psalm 107:19-20 NLT – “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.

Isaiah 43:1 CSB – Now this is what the Lord says – the one who created you, Jacob, and the one who formed you, Israel – “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.”

Ephesians 1:5-8 NLT – God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

“I have freed you from the oppressive hold of the enemy and have rescued you from your slave master — sin. I have redeemed you with my powerful arm and poured out all my judgment on my son who took your place on the cross. I have claimed you as my own and called you by name. I love you. I have saved you. I have paid your debt. I am your God and you are mine.”
