The Shepherd & His Sheep Part 2 – The Care of the Shepherd

Psalm 23:1-6 CSB – The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters. He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff ​– ​they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD as long as I live.

1. ALL WE NEED IS THE GOOD SHEPHERD .

Psalm 23:1 CSB – The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need.

John 1:4 CSB – In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

Colossians 2:9-10 CSB – For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ, and you have been filled by him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

Isaiah 55:9 CSB – “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

A. HE IS .

Psalm 23:2 CSB – He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters.

B. HE IS .

Psalm 23:3a CSB – He renews my life;

Isaiah 40:31 CSB – but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.

1 John 5:11-12 CSB – And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. The one who has the Son has life. The one who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

C. HE IS THE .

Psalm 23:3b CSB – He leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

John 14:6 CSB – Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Psalm 77:19 NLT – Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters–a pathway no one knew was there!

John 16:33 CSB – “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

Isaiah 43:2 CSB – “I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire, and the flame will not burn you.

D. HE IS

Psalm 23:4-5a CSB – Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me, your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

John 14:27 CSB – “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.”

E. HE IS

Psalm 23:5b CSB – you anoint my head with oil;

Psalm 103:1-3 CSB – My soul, bless the LORD, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.  My soul, bless the LORD, and do not forget all his benefits. He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases.
