HABITS | PART 1 | REPENT | 01.02.22

P. Rhett Barden

“People who live their best life do consistently what other people do occasionally.”“Our habits will make us or break us. We become what we repeatedly do.” – Sean Covey“We form habits and then our habits form us.”

Romans 7:15,18-19, 24-25 (NLT)  I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate… I want to do what is right, but I can’t.  I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway… Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) …if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.Isaiah 43:18–19 (NIV) “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

LIFE-CHANGING HABITS

1. .1 John 1:8–9 (NIV) If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.Acts 3:19 (NIV) Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,Psalm 32:3,4 (NLT) When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long… My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.Psalm 51:1–4, 10, 12 (NIV) Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.Psalm 32:1–5 (NLT) Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!  Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!

2.  Live a life.

Romans 12:2 (MSG) Fix your attention on God.  You’ll be changed from the inside out.  Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.  Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.Exodus 20:1-3 (NIV) And God spoke all these words: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.  You shall have no other gods before me.”John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.Matthew 6:33 (NIV) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

3. your life to Jesus.

Luke 9:23-25 (NLT) Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.Acts 4:12 (NIV) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
