SERMON: When We Lose Our Way

TEXT: Luke 15:1-32

SPEAKER: Pastor Dan Turner

Twenty years ago, Northwest was founded on a single, driving conviction from Luke 15 – lost people matter to God. In fact, the first sermon at Northwest was based on Luke 15. As we launch our 20th anniversary month this weekend, we are returning to the core passion that first sparked our congregation. God’s heart hasn’t changed—He remains relentless in pursuing the people of our city, and He is inviting us to share that same urgency.

SERMON NOTES

Lost Through Nibbling

You are tempted by the evil things you want. Your own desire leads you away and traps you. Your desire grows inside you until it results in sin. Then the sin grows bigger and bigger and finally ends in death.

James 1:14-15 ERV

Lost Through Carelessness

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

I Corinthians 9:25

Lost Through Selfishness

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4

Lost Through Self-Righteousness

In the same way you look righteous to people. But inside you are full of pretense and rebellion.

Matthew 23:28 CEB

Jesus’ Response to the Lost

He Values the Lost  (Romans 5:8)

He Gravitates Toward the lost  (Mark 2:17)

He Celebrates when the Lost are Found (Luke 15:7, 10, 23)
