TODAY’S SERMON

SERMON: Tabitha: The Helping Gifts

TEXT: Acts 9:32-42

SPEAKER: Rev. Dan Turner

Scripture describes 27 different gifts that are given to followers of Christ to help strengthen the body of Christ. When those gifts are paired with a person’s passions, abiltities, experiences and unique personality an impactful picture begins to emerge. In this unique series, we are looking at the lives of Timothy, Tabitha and Stephen to see how they were uniquely gifted for the roles they each played in the early church. You won’t want to miss a Sunday of this inspiring series. This Sunday we look at how Tabitha had an incredible impact on her house church with just her needle and thread in Acts 9.

SERMON NOTES

Practice the Power of Quiet Service

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. Acts 9:36

On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 1 Corinthians 12:22-23

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:3-4

Discover True Wealth

Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Acts 9:36

“I tell you, use the worldly things you have now to make ‘friends’ for later. Then, when those things are gone, you will be welcomed into a home that lasts forever. Luke 16:9 (ERV)

Impact Others with “What’s in Your Hands”

“I tell you, use the worldly things you have now to make ‘friends’ for later. Then, when those things are gone, you will be welcomed into a home that lasts forever. Luke 16:9 (ERV)

Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. Exodus 4:2

Leave a Heritage of Changed Lives

He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. Acts 9:41-42

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2
