Waiting Here For You: Trusting God’s Timing

December 8, 2024

Waiting is .

Psalm 106:13-14
“But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold. In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.”

  1. They what he had done.
  2. They did not for His plan to unfold.
  3. They gave in to their .
  4. They God.

2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you…”

Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV):
“The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands…’”

God’s Desire is to Develop in Us

Makrothymia:
This word conveys the ability to endure challenges or difficult people with restraint and without losing heart. It emphasizes self-control and endurance, even under provocation.

Galatians 5:22
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience [makrothymia], kindness, goodness, faithfulness…”

2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient [makrothymia] with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Waiting Builds

Psalm 27:14
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

God’s timing is always  and .

Galatians 4:4
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son…”

Luke 2:1-72
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.

6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Micah 5:2
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,    though you are small among the clans[a] of Judah, out of you will come for me    one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

Even when circumstances seemed chaotic, God was working out His plan.

You Have Heard It Said: “God has forgotten about you.”

But Jesus Says:“I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God” (Luke 12:6).

Even in the silence, God remembers you. He is working behind the scenes to bring His promises to fulfillment.

You Have Heard It Said: “You need to take matters into your own hands.”

But Jesus Says:“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

God calls us to trust Him, not our own efforts. Surrendering control allows us to experience His perfect plan.

You Have Heard It Said: “Nothing is happening; you’re wasting time.”

But Jesus Says:“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working” (John 5:17).

“Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).

Even when you can’t see it, God is working. The waiting season is often a growing season.

You Have Heard It Said: “This waiting is pointless.”

But Jesus Says:“The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed… Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants” (Matthew 13:31-32).

“Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds” (John 12:24).

God uses waiting to bring about growth and transformation that we cannot yet .

• Surrender your timelines to God.• Ask Him to reveal His purpose while waiting.• Encourage and continue to pray with someone    else who is struggling to wait on God’s promises.

Your life may feel messy and your waiting may seem endless, but God is working in ways you cannot imagine.

Where am I struggling to trust God’s timing?
What false narratives am I believing, and how can I replace them with Jesus’ truth?
