We are called to Invite everyone, everywhere, into a transforming relationship with Jesus every day.

Start Here: God is Good.

October 13, 2024

Are we pursuing God intentionally, or are we just casually considering Him?

Jeremiah 29:13
“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

Psalm 34:8 (NIV)
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”

“Come close, try Me, and for yourself how good I am.”

Goodness of God: His inherent nature to be loving, kind, just, and generous.

“The goodness of God is infinitely more wonderful than we will ever be able to comprehend.”-A.W. Tozer

So what if my story says otherwise?

Can we explore the idea that even in those tough moments, God is good—whether we see it or not?

We all want to believe that God is good, right?

“If we think God is angry with us, disappointed in us, or wants to punish us, we will never feel safe in his presence. That is the false narrative.”
-James Bryan Smith – Good and Beautiful God

God’s goodness isn’t tied to the or comfort of our lives—it’s tied to His , His character. And His character is unchanging.

Psalm 31:19
“How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.”

His goodness is not scarce; it’s abundant, overflowing, and available for all who trust in Him.

1 Peter 2:9
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

We’re called to be living testimonies of His goodness.

Where in your life do you need to confront those false narratives that make you doubt God’s goodness?

What if the narrative you’ve been living out of isn’t true?

What if God’s goodness isn’t tied to whether or not life goes your way?

What if the narrative you’ve been living out of isn’t true?

What if God’s goodness isn’t tied to whether or not life goes your way?

FOR ME:
God’s goodness doesn’t always change our , but it will change our .

God’s Goodness Us

Psalm 23:6“
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”

“God’s love and goodness are not static qualities, waiting for us to come around. They are dynamic forces in the world, chasing after us to draw us back into the fullness of life.”
-Scot McKnight, The Jesus Creed

God’s Goodness Our Trials

Romans 8:28
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”

Sometimes, we only see His goodness in .

God’s Goodness Leads Us to

Romans 2:4 (AMP)
Or do you have no regard for the wealth of His kindness and tolerance and patience [in withholding His wrath]? Are you [actually] unaware or ignorant [of the fact] that God’s kindness leads you to repentance [that is, to change your inner self, your old way of thinking—seek His purpose for your life]?

“Repentance is not about shame. It’s about returning to the goodness of God, to the life we were always meant to live in communion with Him.”-Scot McKnight

Sometimes, the circumstances don’t change, but our does.

“The process of spiritual formation in Christ is one of progressively replacing… destructive images and ideas with the images and ideas that filled the mind of Jesus himself.”
-Dallas Willard

“Every rabbi had his ‘yoke’—a Hebrew idiom for his set of teachings, his way of reading Scripture, his take on how to thrive as a human being in God’s good world. How you, too, could taste a little of what they’d tasted…”

-John Mark Comer, Practicing The Way

What if we, as a community, made it a practice to help each other identify and replace these false narratives?

Psalm 107:1
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”

You and I are to live in God’s Goodness

Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

What circumstance right now has you questioning God’s goodness?

How is God wanting change your perspective?
