Summer Faves: Sights of Summer

June 30, 2024

When you think about summer, What sight comes to mind?

What are you looking for?

Isaiah 43:16-19(NIV)
16 This is what the Lord says—he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters,17 who drew out the chariots and horses,    the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again,    extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:
18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

What does God want you to see?

Psalm 121:1-21

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Perspective vs. Perspective

Who are you to?

Hebrews 12:1-3 (AMP)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of [a]witnesses [who by faith have testified to the truth of God’s absolute faithfulness], stripping off every unnecessary weight and the sin which so easily and cleverly entangles us, let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us,

2 [looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, [b]disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work].

3 Just consider and meditate on Him who endured from sinners such bitter hostility against Himself [consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Your Eyes of Jesus

Fix-
Look away from other things so that you can all your attention on one object.

Proverbs 4:25-27 (The Voice)
25 Keep your head up, your eyes straight ahead, and your focus fixed on what is in front of you. 26 Take care you don’t stray from the straight path, the way of truth, and you will safely reach the end of your road. 27 Do not veer off course to the right or the left;
step away from evil, and leave it behind.

What happens when you fix your eyes on Jesus?

  • You operate in the supernatural.
  • You do the unimaginable.
  • You are able to see his faithfulness, goodness, presence, and love.

Philippians 4:4-9 (MSG)
4-5 Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute!

6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
