“Rise and Return to the King”
April 12, 2025 / Pastor Donovan Sabog
What is Palm Sunday?
Palm Sunday = The Beginning of Holy Week, the Fulfillment of Prophecy, and the Recognition of Jesus as King.
“Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: ‘Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!’ And Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So when He had looked around at all things, as the hour was already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve.”
Mark 11:7-11 NKJV
What Does It Mean?
The Donkey = Jesus is the Fulfillment of Prophecy
“Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet He is humble, riding on a donkey –
riding on a donkey’s colt.” (Zech. 9:9 NLT)
The Palms = Jesus is the Victorious Savior
● Ὡσαννά = Hosanna = Please Save Us
“So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!’” (John 12:13 ESV)
The Robes = Jesus is the King of Kings
“Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.”
(Matt. 21:8 ESV)
What is Its Relevance For Me?
1. Honor the King
“…Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’”
(Luke 19:37-38 ESV)
2. Invite to the King
“The crowd that had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness.” (John 12:17 ESV)
“The reason why the crowd went to meet Him was that they heard He had done this sign.” (John 12:18 ESV)
3. Bow Before the King
“…so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil. 2:9-11 ESV)
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 NIV)
