Our Mission in this Moment

January 21, 2023 / Dr. Ed Stetzer

“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’ After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.’” (John 20:19-21).

  1. Fear is the Opposite of Faith.

“On the evening of that first day of the week, when thedisciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders,…” (John 20:19a)

  1. Peace is the Christian Response.

“Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’” (John 20:19b)

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7).

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

  1. The Cross Is Our Hope and Motivation.

“After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.” (John 20:20)

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” (Rom. 14:8)

  1. We Go Because Jesus Came to Us.

“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.’” (John 20:21)

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isa. 6:8)
