Making Room for Worship

December 7, 2022 / Pastor Jon Burgess

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

  1. Make Room For Spontaneous     Songs= Embrace The Changes

When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”  Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord.  How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!  For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed.  For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.  He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him.                            Luke 1:44-50

Community Builder Discussion Question:

The only constant is change. The only constant in the change is Jesus. Where has Jesus surprised you with joy in the middle of the challenges?

2.  Make Room For Slow    Songs= Embrace The Waiting

At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, 28Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised.  I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people.  He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

Community Builder Discussion Question:

So much of the life of faith is the refusal to quit and the determination to keep showing up.  Where have I been waiting on God to move and He’s been waiting on me to obey?

3.  Make Room For Sad Songs= Embrace The Healing

“And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord.  You will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins.  Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.”

  Luke 1:76-79

True worship includes minor keys.  Where are you choosing to praise Jesus in the midst of the pain?  That’s precisely where Emmanuel will meet you.
