“Biblically Sound Decisions”

November 19, 2022 / Pastor Richard Waialeale

“Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.

Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.”

(Prov. 2:5, 9)

SIX WAYS TO TEST A DECISION

  1. THE IDEAL TEST: Is it in harmony with God’s Word?

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Ps. 119:105)

  1. THE INTEGRITY TEST: Would I want everyone to know about this decision that I’m making?

“The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out.” (Prov. 10:9)

“Therefore, to one who knows the one right thing to do, and does not do it, to him it is sin.” (Jas. 4:17)

  1. THE IMPROVEMENT TEST: Will it make me a better person?

“‘Everything is permissible’ – but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible’ – but not everything is constructive.” (1 Cor. 10:23)

  1. THE INDEPENDENCE TEST: Could it become addicting to me?

“Everything is permissible for me”—but I will not be mastered by anything.” (1 Cor. 6:12)

  1. THE INFLUENCE TEST: Will it harm other people?

“So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.” (Rom14:12-13)

“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.” (Rom. 15:1-2)

6. THE INVESTMENT TEST: Is it the best use of my life? Or even is it the best use of my time?

“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Eph. 5:15-17)
