Authentic | Mark 12:28-34

Mark 12:29-30 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’”
Mark 12:33 “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

The love for your neighbor is a natural outgrowth of your love for God.

Key Point: Everyone needs to be loved.

1 John 4:16 “God is love.”

Mark 12:31b “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Who is my neighbor?

Key Point: Everyone is my neighbor.

Luke 10:25-29
“On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Luke 10:36-37 (NASB) “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” 37 And he said, “The one who showed compassion to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

Key Point: Love requires action on our part.

1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

Mark Twain “Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.”

Mark 12:31 “Love your neighbor as yourself” .

4 actions every follower of Jesus can take to love their neighbor:
1. Loving your neighbor means showing compassion
.

Luke 10:37 (NASB) “The one who showed compassion to him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

2. Loving your neighbor means speaking words of kindness.

3. Loving your neighbor means looking out for their well-being.

1 Corinthians 13:7 “it always protects.”

Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (ESV).

4. Loving your neighbor means serving them.

Love your neighbor as yourself.
