Jesus is Worthy of Remembering | Luke 2:19

Luke 2:19 “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.”
To treasure means “to guard it, keep it close, or keep safe.”
To ponder means “to think carefully, to reflect, to contemplate.”

1. A Visit from an Angel
Luke 1:26b-28
“God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Luke 1:30b-33 “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Luke 1:35 “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Luke 1:37For no word from God will ever fail”

2. An Angel visited Joseph
Matthew 1:19 “Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.”
Matthew 1:20b-21 “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

3. An Angel visited the Shepherds

Luke 2:10b-12 “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

  1. Ponder on Jesus so we Never Forget what He did for us.
  2. Ponder on Jesus because it can shape us to be more like Him.
  3. Pondering about Jesus prepares us to tell others about His love for them.

4 Basic Truths about Jesus:

1. God loves you and wants a personal relationship with you.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

2. Sin separates us from God.

Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

3. Jesus is God’s plan to save us from sin.
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

4. Only by receiving Jesus as your Savior and Lord can you have your sins forgiven.
John 1:12 “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
