Worthy of Praise | Luke 2:10-14; Psalm 100

“If I have but one day to live, please take me to a swim meet because they last forever!”

Luke 2:10-14 “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

The angels worshipped Him because He was God.

Jesus is worthy of our worship.

Ten Thousand Angels He could have called ten thousand angels…To destroy the world and set Him free…He could have called ten thousand angels…But He died alone for you and me.

Everyone is welcome to worship Jesus.

Richard Foster Celebration of Discipline “If the Lord is to be Lord, worship must have priority in our lives. The first commandment of Jesus is, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all you soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30)…Our lives are to be punctuated with praise, thanksgiving, and adoration”

Ps 100:1-4Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. 2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. 3Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”

Richard Foster “A striking feature of worship in the Bible is that people gathered in what we could call a “holy expectancy.”

Ps 100:5 “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

David’s three reasons that God deserves our worship
     1. The Lord is good.
     2. God’s love endures forever.
     3. God’s faithfulness continues through all generations.

Luke 2:17-18 “When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”
