The Good Shepherd | Psalm 23:1

Psalm 23:1a “The Lord is my Shepherd…”

John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd”

Colossians 1:15-16 “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

Jesus, the Creator of an enormous universe, called Himself my Shepherd and invited me to consider to be one of His sheep.

3 Reasons to follow Jesus as your “Good Shepherd”:

1. Follow Jesus because He created you.

2. Follow Jesus because He paid the ultimate price for you.

Isaiah 53:5-6 (NLT) “But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. 6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.” I trust Jesus because He has bought me at the incredible price of His own life.

John 10:11 “I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep.”

3. Follow Jesus because He leads us continuously.

Caution: If we choose a different shepherd, we will face serious consequences.

Matthew 16:24  “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.” (NASB).

Psalm 23:1 “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.”

3 reasons to be completely satisfied with Jesus as our Good Shepherd:

1. Jesus is a Shepherd who cares for His sheep.

John 16:33b “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

2. Jesus is a Shepherd who meets needs.

3. Jesus is a shepherd who protects His flock.

John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

Psalm 121:3 “He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber;”

J. Hudson Taylor “I cannot read, I cannot pray, I can scarcely even think – but I can trust.”

Our Good Shepherd is still in control.
