The Coming King | Hope
December 4, 2022 / Philip CarrollThe Coming King | Hope
Hebrews 6:19 “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Hope…
“Yakhal” – to wait for
“Qavah” – to wait
Dr. Tim Mackie “In Biblical Hebrew, hope is about waiting or expectation.”
Isaiah 8:17 “I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my trust in him.”
Psalm 71:3-5 “Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. 4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. 5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth.”
Psalm 130: 1-8 “Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; 2 Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. 5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. 7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.”
“It is God’s past faithfulness that motivates hope for the future.”
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Simeon knew the Israelites were sinners in need of a Savior.
And Simeon held on to the hope that a Savior was on the way.
Jesus is the promised king who came to fulfill the hope of his people.
The empty tomb opened up a new door of hope.
Hope holds on.
