Run Your Best Race | Sermon #4 – Finish Strong

August 28, 2022 / Monte WIlkinson

Finish Strong | Romans 12:4-8

2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

5 Keys to Help Us to Finish Strong:

  1. Run the race that God calls you to run. What’s your race?

2 Questions to ask about God’s calling:

A. What’s my business?

Romans 1:1 “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God.”

Every Christ Follower has a part to play in the Body of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Romans 12:4-8 “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”

Colossians 1:10 “so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,”

B. How’s business?

Luke 16:10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

2. Decide how you want to finish your race.

Acts 20:24b “…my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

Galatians 2:1-2 “Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. 2 I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.”

3. Always stay focused on the finish line.

1 Corinthians 9:26-27 “Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

Philippians 3:13-14 “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

4. This race isn’t about finishing first.

5. Something amazing happens at the finish line.

Matthew 25:21 “Well done good and faithful servant.”You will never regret running your best race.
