Summer Slump | Gentleness

Galatians 5:22-23 “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Because gentleness is not weakness; gentleness is power under control.

Jesus had access to more power than any group of people to walk the planet with Him.
The very power in His Name made demons tremble.
The very power in His cloak could heal physical disease.
The very power of His message dismantled false teachers.
The very power of His righteous anger flipped the tables of temple exploiters.
The very power of His words stilled nature’s storms.
The very power of His touch restored sight.
The very power in His death defeated sin.
And the power in His resurrection secured eternal victory for all who call on the Name above all Names.

He was not weak, but He was gentle.

Ephesians 4:1-3 “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have
received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort
to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Proverbs 15:1 “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Luke 9:51-56 “As the time approached for him [Jesus] to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; Jesus is on an Exodus journey. Exodus 23 and Malachi 3. To Jerusalem through a Samaritan village. 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” 55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them. 56 Then he and his disciples went to another village.”

Pastor Wes Morris: “You can be right, but if you’re ruthless…you’re wrong.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-4a “Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.”

1 Timothy 6:11-12a “But you, man of God, flee from all this (flee from quarrels, flee from false teaching, flee from envy and strife and malice…but instead), and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the
good fight of the faith.”

2 Timothy 2:24-25 “The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, skillful in teaching, patient when
wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance
leading to the knowledge of the truth.”
