Summer Slump – Sermon #6 | Goodness

July 10, 2022 / Philip Carroll

Summer Slump | Goodness Francis Chan “As a Christ-follower, your greatest danger is not ruining your life, but wasting it.”

Galatians 5:6 “The only thing that counts is  faith expressing itself through love.”

Galatians 5:22-23a “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.” Psalm 34:8Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

If kindness is an action or a reaction, then goodness is the motivation.

Goodness is doing what’s right right in front of you.

The only reason we have food in here is because we have hungry people out there.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Goodness is doing what’s right right in front of you.

Proverbs 3:27 “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.”

Andy Stanley “Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone.”

Psalms 82:3-4 “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. 4 Rescue the
weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
Galatians 6:10 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to
the family of believers.”
Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are
his very own, eager to do what is good.”
Romans 12:1 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows
in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
Proverbs 11:25 “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Isaiah 58:7-8 “Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.”

There’s healing in you when you’re not focused on you.

Goodness does what’s right right in front of you.
Goodness does for one what you wish you could do for everyone.
Goodness feels so good because you were created by a good God to do good.
