More Than | Trust Me – Matthew 14:22-33

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Is there any area of my life that I don’t trust God with?

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Matthew 14:22-24 “Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.”

You can always trust Jesus.

KEY POINT: Following Jesus always requires FAITH.

Four Reasons to Put Your Faith in Jesus:

  1. Eventually, a storm will come.

Warren Wiersbe “We must never judge our security on the basis of circumstances alone.”

  1. Jesus is with you in the storm.

Matthew 14:25-26 “Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

Matthew 14:27 “But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 

Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…” (NASB).

Proverbs 18:24 “But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Matthew 28:20b “…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

John Ortberg “Growth always involves risk, and risk always involves fear.”

Matthew 14:28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

  1. God grows our faith during the storm.

Matthew 14:29-30 “‘Yes, come,’ Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. ‘Save me, Lord!’ he shouted.”

Matthew 14:31 “Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

“Faith is not believing in spite of evidence, but obeying in spite of the consequence.”

  1. Jesus will see you through the storm.

Matthew 14:32-33 “When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.”

Matthew 14:30b “Lord, save me!”

Corrie Ten Boom “I’ve experienced His presence in the deepest darkest hell that men can create…I have tested the promises of the Bible, and believe me, you can count on them.”
