Purpose for Everyone | Matthew 28:18-20

“Why am I here?”

Purpose: “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

God created man to bear His image and to rule over creation.

Isaiah 59:2 “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”

My Purpose is to glorify God.

Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

    1. Use your whole self to glorify God.
    2. Even the little things can glorify God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

My Purpose is to prepare for eternity.

Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

Mark 8:36-37 “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”.

Objectives from the Great Commission

  1. Make Lexington the hardest place on earth to go to hell from.

Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

  2. Prepare people to be fully devoted followers of Jesus.

When you live out your purpose you can make an eternal difference.

What happens when we don’t plan is that we end up doing whatever we feel like at the moment.
