Verbs With Friends | Paul & Timothy – Love (Agape)

1 Timothy 1:2 “To Timothy my true son in the faith…”
2 Tim. 1:2 “To Timothy, my beloved son…” (NASB).

Agape – to unconditional love – the highest form of love

1 Corinthians 4:17 “For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.”

5 Investments Love led Paul to Make:


1. Paul gave Instruction

1 Timothy 1:3 “As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer”

2. Paul gave Encouragement.

1 Timothy 1:18 “Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well,”

“The #1 tool of Satan is discouragement.” (WBS)

3. Paul gave Affirmation.

1 Timothy 1:2 “To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:37-39 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

4. Paul gave an Example.

1 Timothy 3:10 (NLT) “But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance.”.

1 Cor. 11:1 “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

The next generation is always watching, so set the example.

5. Paul became a Colleague.

Romans 16:21, “Timothy, my fellow worker, sends you his greetings.”

2 Timothy 4:9 “Do your best to come to me quickly,”

Love shows up!

They don’t need your words, they need you.
It’s the ministry of presence

2 Timothy 4:9 “Do your best to come to me quickly,”

2 Timothy 4:10-12 “for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. 12 I sent Tychicus to Ephesus.”

2 Timothy 4:11 “…Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.”

Acts 15:39 “They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company.” 

Love meets a need! 

2 Timothy 4:13 “When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments.”

Make agape based investments in your relationships and watch those relationships thrive.
