Facing Troubling Times With Faith

September 6, 2020 / Pastor Mike Wilde / Daniel 1:1-7

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Adversity is inevitable so don’t be when it happens to you

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 1 Peter 4:12

“Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you’re just coming out of one, or you’re getting ready to go into another one.” ~ Rick Warren

When adversity happens look for ways God might be it in your life

Adversity… causes you to

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24

Adversity… used to

For whom the Lord loves He reproves,
Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:12

Questions to Consider

  1. Make a list of three troubling times you have experienced. What was your immediate response to them?  How should you have responded? Share one or two of them with others.
  2. Read Daniel 1:1-7. How do you see the world, the flesh and the devil involved in Judah’s troubling times? Where was God in them? Can you see any parallels as you think about the troubling times you have faced? Share your insights with others.
  3. As you think about what is happening in your life today, how might this message and the points shared give you a greater faith in the midst of troubling times? As you pray to God, use Proverbs 3:5-6 to talk to Him about this.  Share with others what your insights.
