How do you learn contentment?
Through Christ you can rejoice in what you receive.
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. Philippians 4:10
(Philippians 1:3-4,12-14,19,21; 2:1)
Through Christ you can learn contentment in any circumstances.
Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. Philippians 4:11
(Philippians 2:5-7,13,15,17,19-24, 29-30; 3:5-8)
Through Christ you can adapt to changing circumstances.
I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. Philippians 4:12
(Philippians 3:10,13,14,18,20; 4:4,6-9,11,19)
What?
Learn to avoid comparison
-
- Richer not better
- Riches not key to contentment
Learn to adjust to change
Learn to depend on Christ
So what?
During changing circumstances you must learn to distinguish between
-
- Those events we can control i.e., so take responsibility
- Those events we can control and do not (i.e. lazy)
- Those events we cannot control. Trust God.
Now what?
Find contentment with changing circumstances.
