How To Think More Like Christ

May 8, 2022 / Pastor Dennis Beatty / Philippians 2:5-8

To develop the mind of Christ, you develop…

Selflessness: Lay aside your rights.

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped. Philippians 2:5-6

Renounce your privileges.

But emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant. Philippians 2:7a

Accept your limited options.

And being made in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:7b

Accept your new identity.

And being found in appearance as a man, humbled Himself. Philippians 2:8a

Sacrifice: Realize your purpose.

By becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:8b

Don’t miss Christ’s pattern.

  1. Christ temporarily emptied Himself of supernatural rights.
  2. Christ took on the limitations of humanity.
  3. Christ was made of human DNA.
  4. Christ humbled Himself by becoming obedient to an innocent death.

So What?

Paul called himself a servant more often than an apostle. Likewise, Christ lived to do God’s will. Do you treat people as fellow-servants or try to boss them?

Now What?

Where does your pride hinder your humble service?
