1 Corinthians 15:1-11

April 17, 2022 / Pastor Dennis Beatty / 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Your hope of eternal life rests on your commitment to the following four truths.

The resurrection of Christ is historical truth.

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, by which you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain, for I delivered to you as of first importance what I received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

The risen Christ was seen by many witnesses.

He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as it were to one untimely born, He appeared to me. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8

The risen Christ turned Rabbi Saul to Faith.

Last of all, as it were to one untimely born, He appeared to me. For I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 1 Corinthians 15:8-9

Paul’s encounter with the risen Christ motivated his preaching focus.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. 1 Corinthians 15:10-11

The resurrection stands the test of recorded eyewitness historical testimony.

So What?

Jesus shows us a life lived according to the prophetic Scriptures.

  • He lived according to the Scriptures. (Isaiah 53:1-3; 1 Peter 2:21-23)
  • He died according to the Scriptures. (Isaiah 53: 4-9; 1 Peter 2:24)
  • He was resurrected according to the Scriptures.(Isaiah 53: 10-11)

Now What?

Tell others about the risen Christ.

Do you want to go to heaven?

Dear God, I know I have sinned against you. I want to turn from my sins. I believe you provided Jesus the eternal payment for my sins. I surrender to Jesus as my Savior and my Lord. I thank you for your forgiveness of my sins, that comes only through the cross and the resurrection of Christ. Amen.
