Week of December 19, 2021 The shepherds were in their fields watching their flocks by night. These shepherds wouldn’t seem to be major players in the first Christmas, but consider the following. They were among the first people to hear about the birth of Messiah. They got a visit from an angel. They immediately obeyed and went to Bethlehem. They were the first citizens of Bethlehem to worship at Messiah‘s birth. Since they saw angels, they were one of the few believers ever to have such an experience over the course of human history. So I think in terms of the role players at Christ’s birth I would’ve been glad to join them. Being a former farm boy it would have been nice to get away from the sheep for a few hours! Maybe you could read the Luke chapter 2 story of Christ’s birth in preparation for the message. Pray for this Sunday and the Christmas Eve service. Pray for those who may not be regular attenders, that they will understand the significance of the birth of God in the flesh. Merry Christmas! It Happened On The Night Shift December 19, 2021 / Pastor Dennis Beatty / Luke 2:8-20 What are you waiting for this Christmas? You look for good news In the same region there were some shepherds keeping watch over their flocks by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terribly frightened. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of a great joy which shall be for all the people.” Luke 2:8-10 You look for biblical perspective For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign. You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:11-12 You see Christmas as an opportunity to worship Suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth among men with whom He is pleased.” Luke 2: 13-14 You make a decision to act It came about when the angels had gone away the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” Luke 2:15-16 You share the good news When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. All who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen. Luke 2:17-20 What? The birth of Christ was predicted by God and changed people into worshippers and witnesses. So What? Do you worship the Lord? Do you share your faith? Now What? Evaluate whether or not you worship the true Jesus of Scripture. Jesus is the God. He is the third person of the trinity and deserves worship. heavenornot.net Save PDF Locally Click to save a copy of the filled-in notes to a PDF file on your device Generate File Click to View PDF Save PDF to Google Drive Click to save a copy of the filled-in notes to a PDF file on your Google Drive account(For Apple devices, use Chrome browser or go to SETTINGS>SAFARI and uncheck BLOCK POPUPS.)
