Christmas Requires A Response

December 12, 2021 / Pastor Dennis Beatty / Matthew 1:1-25

Which response will be your response to this Christmas?

The Israelites under anticipated Christmas

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. Matthew 1:1

The innocent participated in Christmas

Now the birth of Christ was as follows. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:18

Some believed in the prophecy about Christmas

She will bear a son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD, AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL, which means GOD WITH US. Matthew 1:21-23

An impostor tried to manipulate Christmas

Herod secretly called the magi and ascertained the time the star appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, make careful search for the Child; and when you have found him, report to me, that I may come and worship Him. Matthew 2:7-8

The inquisitive worshipped on Christmas

When they saw a star, they rejoiced exceedingly. They came into the house and saw the Child with Mary and they worshipped Him; and opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:10-11

What?

What would be the greatest Christmas gift of all time?

Into this sin-filled world God sent Jesus Emmanuel – God with us. That is a vote of confidence we did not deserve. It means God has higher expectations for us than we have for ourselves.

Now What?

Let’s not let the feasting, gift-giving, and fun cloud our worship of Christ this Christmas.
