“The Baptism of the Holy Spirit”

 

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is an essential doctrine, because so many other doctrines are foundational to it.

What is it?

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the believer is brought into vital union with God and total identification with Jesus Christ at the point of faith.

Vital union: My nature is intertwined with God. (Gen. 2:24; I Cor. 6:16b-17)

Total Identification: What is true of Christ is true of me. (Rom. 8:16-17)

The prophet Joel it. (Acts 2:14b-18; Ps. 51:10-11; )

John the Baptist it. (Luke 3:16b; John 3:34)

Jesus it. (John 14:15-17)

Why is it necessary?

Freedom requires spiritual . (Rom. 6:1-4)

Diversity requires spiritual . (I Cor. 12:13; Eph. 4:4-5; Gal. 3:26-28)

When is it?

It’s an operation of the . (Acts 2:38; 11:11-15)

Why do some believe the baptism of the Spirit is separate from salvation?
