“The First Institution”

Genesis 2:18-25

Marriage matters so much to God that He created it before any other human institution.

Marriage, as presented for the first time in Genesis 2:

God man’s need. (vv. 18)

God gives man an of his need. (vv. 19-20)

God for man’s need to be met. (vv. 21-22)

God inspires man to the supplied need. (v. 23)

God provides an for marriage today. (v. 24)

In verse 24, there are three relationships that are essential to marriage.

1.  A relationship to God: . (v. 24a; Matt. 19:6; II Cor. 6:14)

2. A relationship to one’s parents: . (v. 24b)

3. A relationship to each other: (v. 24c; I Cor. 6:16-17; I Cor. 7:4; Eph. 5:25;)

God’s design is a marriage . (v.25)
