“The Forgetful Church”

Revelation 2:1-7

 

The seven churches of Revelation are literal but represent churches across time.

Christ’s letters to them serve to stir up true believers to be the church He has designed us to be!

 

EPHESUS

The design for this church:

Be a . (v. 1)

 

The commendation of this church:

Their was sound. (v. 2; I John 4:1)

Their was strong. (vv. 3, 6)

 

The rebuke for this church:

They’d lost the wonder of . (v. 4)

The sequence of a church’s downfall:

  1. The Gospel first becomes dull and routine…
  2. Then, morality becomes compromised…
  3. Then, doctrine gets twisted, to affirm our “new” morality.

 

The warning for this church:

Reclaim the wonder or lose your . (v. 5)

 

The invitation and promise for this church:

All true believers will . (v. 7a; I Cor. 2:14; I John 5:4)

An perspective fuels our performance. (v. 7b; Col. 3:2)
