“Hope for Young Ministers”

(1 Timothy 4:12-16)

A good minister is first and foremost a “servant.”

1. We must set an example for Christian living.

People will no longer despise your youth when they are respecting your example.

2. Read, Teach, and Apply the Scripture

Read the Scripture, exhort from the Scripture, and teach sound doctrine from the Scripture.

3. Develop your gifts (4:14).

We must not neglect but develop God’s gift in us (4:14).

4. Cultivate your life and doctrine (4:15).

We must devote ourselves to godliness and the teaching to progress in these matters (4:15).

5. Pay close attention to your life and doctrine (4:16).

What do you do after you cultivate your life and doctrine? You keep attending to your life and doctrine. We must persevere in guarding our lifestyle and the teaching (4:16).

6. In the end, our hope as young ministers is for more than respect. Our hope is that Christ is using us as His servants to grow His people for His glory and their good. And unbelievably, He is doing just that! God has chosen to use works in progress like us to bless other works in progress!
