Historically, this chapter is at a crucial turning point in the life of the nation of Judah. Under the long reign of Uzziah (c. 792-739 BC), the nation had prospered, but by the time of Ahaz (c. 735-715 BC), the country had become an Assyrian vassal. Morally and politically the nation had experienced a deplorable decline. God sends Isaiah at this difficult time as a prophetic voice to the nation. Paul Wegner
1. Look Up.
Holy, holy, holy is not just repetition; it’s emphasis. It isn’t one + one + one; it’s perfection x perfection x perfection…. He is not just holy, he is “holy, holy, holy,” each word boosting the force of the previous one exponentially…. He is not like us, only bigger and nicer. He is in a different category. He is holy. Ray Ortlund
2. Look In.
We will never appreciate the grace of God until we see the depths of our sin.
We will never see the depths of our sin until we recognize the holiness of God.
The world says: “You made your own bed. Lay in it. Jesus says: “Take up your bed and walk. Your sins are forgiven.”
3. Look Out.
Being joined to God means joining a missionary society. We are first brought in, and we are then sent out. Alec Motyer
