Living Stones
August 16, 2026 | High Point Assembly of God | Nate Cress, Executive Pastor
1 Peter 2:4-5
4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1. The Living Stone (v. 4)
- Jesus is the “Living Stone”—rejected by men but chosen by God. The stability of our “house” depends entirely on our alignment with Him, not our own efforts. Good news: God can still use what the world rejects.
- “As you come to him…”. We cannot be placed in the building if we do not first draw near to the Builder.
2. You Are “Living Stones” (v. 5)
- Just as Christ was transformed through resurrection, we are changed through faith.
- A stone lying alone is just a rock. A stone placed in a wall is part of a house.
- The Master Builder (God) places each stone exactly where He wants it.
3. A Holy Priesthood (v. 5b)
- Not Just Attendees, but Participants
- What is our “purpose”? To offer up sacrifices acceptable to God: our worship, our service, our generosity, and our godly living.
