PRAYER – Listen Up

October 11, 2026 / Pastor Jimmy Hargrove

Genesis 3:8–9 (NIV)

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”

Sound – qôl – It primarily refers to a sound made from vocal chords

Psalms 29:4 (NASB1995)

“The voice of the LORD is powerful, The voice of the LORD is majestic.”

1 Kings 19:11–13 (NIV)

“The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

In our culture it is becoming increasingly difficult to hear the voice of God because there is so much noise we are listening to.

John 5:30 (ESV)

““I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.”

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

John 10:27 (ESV)
