Heart For The Home – Course Correction

May 17, 2026 / Pastor Jimmy Hargrove

Proverbs‬ ‭23‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.”

Discipline – mûsār – discipline, chastening, correction, warning of instruction

                                                                       Two reasons we need discipline

1.  Shows there are for our

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭23‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭24‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.”

2. Provides and

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭23‬:‭4‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭11‬ ‭(ESV)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
“It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
