3 Sacred Resolutions For A Committed Marriage
Resolution #1: Commit To Affirmation | v. 4-6
“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.” – Psalm 119:10
“Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth,” – Proverbs 5:18
Resolution #2: Commit To Only One | v. 7-9
What do we do with Solomon’s Infidelity?
Sin Has Consequences
“Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, from the nations concerning which the Lord had said to the people of Israel, ‘You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.’ Solomon clung to these in love. He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart… So the Lord said to Solomon, ‘Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.'” – 1 Kings 11:1-3, 11
Scripture is Prescriptive and Descriptive
Scripture is the Standard, not Solomon
“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” – Matthew 19:4-6
Resolution #3: Commit to Praising Beauty In Every Season | v. 10-11
Christ Connection | v. 12-13
“The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17
