The Power and Results of Working Out Our Salvation
Working Out Your Salvation | v. 12b
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” – Ephesians 2:8-9
Salvation Has Different Tenses
- Past Tense – Justification
- Present Tense – Sanctification
- Future Tense – Glorification
Past Tense. You ARE Saved.
Justification is the action of being declared righteous before God.
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” – Romans 5:1-2
Positional Holiness
Present Tense. You ARE BEING Saved.
Sanctification is a progressive work of God and man that makes us more and more free from sin and like Christ in our actual lives.
“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being
sanctified.” – Hebrews 10:14
1050
“but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,” – 1 Peter 1:15
Sanctification Is The Work of Being Obedient To Jesus In All Things
Future Tense. You WILL BE Saved.
Glorification is God’s final removal of sin from the life of the saints in the eternal state.
“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” – Romans 8:29-30
“When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.” – Colossians 3:4
In justification, we have been delivered from sin’s penalty.
In sanctification, we are being delivered from sin’s power.
In glorification, we will be delivered from sin’s presence.
The Power to Work Out Our Salvation | v. 13
