Counter-Cultural “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness””

October 16, 2022 / Jared Douglas

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”    Matthew 5:6

Righteousness (Dikaiosynē) means: being in proper relationship with God and living in the ways of God…

  • Positional Righteousness

“There is no one righteous, not even one.”   Romans 3:10

“God made Him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God.”   II Corinthians 5:21

“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.”  Philippians 3:8-9

  • Practical Righteousness

“Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. The righteousness of the blameless makes their paths straight, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.” Proverbs 11:4-6

“In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.”   Proverbs 12:28

“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.”   I Timothy 6:11

“I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”   Ephesians 4:1
